When healthcare reaches the borders, impact reaches hearts. Proud to share that a free eye check-up and eye glasses distribution camp was successfully organized at Yuksom, West Sikkim — a beautiful historic town in the Indian state of Sikkim, situated at an elevation of about 1,780 meters (≈5,800+ feet) above sea level in the Eastern Himalayas. This initiative was held under the able guidance of Shri Jai Prakash Ji, Commandant of the 72nd Battalion, Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), and reflects the SSB’s unwavering commitment to not only safeguarding our borders but also serving communities in high-altitude and remote regions. With the expert support of the medical team from Siliguri Greater Lions Eye Hospital, Sevoke Road ,Siliguri, comprehensive eye examinations and free eye glasses distribution were carried out for local residents. The program was led under the vision of Dr. Rajesh Saini, CEO of Greater Lions Eye Hospital, with strong clinical leadership and ensuring compassionate and quality eye care reached hearts and eyes alike. Despite the challenges of terrain and altitude, over 146 senior citizens received detailed eye screenings, with distribution of 63 eye glasses, provided as needed many for the first time in years. Set against the serene Himalayan backdrop of Yuksom in Sikkim, this camp stands as a powerful example of how SSB, healthcare institutions, and dedicated medical professionals can come together to uplift communities where care is most needed.
